Check out all the fun we had this summer at the library!

Wow! We had 1,542 kids enrolled in our 2024 Children's Summer Reading Challenge!

Even more amazing is that 724 of them completed all 5 levels of the Challenge and came in to pick up their rewards! That the highest number of finishers we've had since at least as far back as 2005.

Other statistics:

  • Kids logged 29,810 reading days this summer (up 3% from last summer)!
  • Thanks to our Decatur-area sponsors, these kids earned 8,721 coupons for all sorts of tasty treats -- a value of over $24,000! (Be sure to thank our sponsors listed below.)
  • Kids earned 5,885 other reading rewards, including free books, bookmarks, book bags, toys, tattoos, craft kits, and other fun stuff.
  • 64 kids won a free Summer Reading Challenge t-shirt in our t-shirt drawing.
  • We had 68 different kids' programs at the library this summer, with a total of 2,701 people in attendance!!

Check out these photos of all the fun we had at the library this summer.

Thanks to the Friends of the Decatur Public Library and Dr. Richard Lockmiller for funding the reading rewards, t-shirts, and printing for the program!

Watch for our Winter Reading Program, which will start in January 2025!

Thanks to our Summer Reading Sponsors!

and to Dr. Richard Lockmiller, for his long-time support of our Children's Summer Reading Program, in appreciation for his hometown Decatur Public Library.
