Teen Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Summer 2024: Read, Renew, Repeat

Reading can provide us with a renewed sense of purpose and a fresh outlook on our world. Sharing those connections and perspectives strengthens our bonds and understanding of those around us. We encourage you to share what you're reading this summer, with those around you and our community. Whether you're sharing an old favorite or a new discovery through reviews on Beanstack or here at the library, in lively book group discussions, cuddled up with a favorite furry friend, or stories before bedtime, read something new or reread an old favorite this summer. We're setting a community goal of 50,000 days of reading and hope you'll join together with us to reach it. You can even earn the chance to win prizes, as you track your days reading. We encourage readers to choose books and stories from an array of diverse authors and topics & celebrate the transformative power of seeing oneself reflected in a book.

Program Details

DPL's Summer Reading Challenge for all ages begins Tuesday, May 28th, and runs through the summer. Patrons can preregister beginning April 11th. Sign-up through the Beanstack app or stop in for a paper log. If you participated with Beanstack last summer, simply sign-on & choose your challenge. With Beanstack you will be able to:

  • Track what you're reading right from your phone, tablet or computer!
  • Earn badges for reading or completing other challenges.
  • Collect prizes and tickets for logging your weekly reading.

How does it work?

  1. Create your account in Beanstack or download the app through Android or iOS systems. (App does not load on Kindle Fires)
  2. Read books! Read or listen to whatever books you want, in any format you want! Just read!
  3. Check-in with Beanstack to gain entries for the Grand Prizes and bonus swag.

All entries must be submitted by Saturday, August 10th.

This year's challenge is 30 days of reading. Participants will earn a ticket for the drawings every 5th day of reading (up to 30 days). Additional tickets will be awarded for every 5 addtional days of reading past the 30 day completion mark.

Be sure to log the days you read -- we're aiming for a total of 50,000 days of reading across our DPL community this summer! Watch the total grow at the top of the page or app!
