What is Curbside Service?
Curbside Service allows customers to pick up library materials that have been placed on hold through the online catalog without ever leaving their car.
Where do I pickup my materials?
DPL has a designated Curbside Pickup area that is clearly marked by signage for service during the closure. Pickup will be on the south side of the peninsula. Returns parking is on the north side of the peninsula. Walk-ups and bikers will go to the south side canopy. Please follow the signage.
NOTHING will be accepted from patron to employee.
When can I pick up items using Curbside Service?
Curbside Service is available beginning June 1, Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Decatur Public Library.
When your hold request is filled by library staff, you will receive a notification that will provide you with a phone number to call library staff and schedule a pickup time.
Who can use Curbside Service?
At this time only Decatur Public Library cardholders in good standing can use the service.
How many items can I pick up using Curbside Service?
You may request up to 10 items per patron for Curbside Service.
How do I use the Curbside Service?
Will I lose my HOLD items if I do not pick up during the scheduled time frame?
Items not picked up within the scheduled time frame will be returned to hold shelves and staff will contact you to reschedule pickup. If items are not picked up during the 2nd scheduled time frame the hold request will be cancelled.
How do I return library materials?
You may return your Library materials using the exterior book drop. Please return your items to the automatic check in machine on the east side of the building or the outside book drop. The library is not receiving donations at this time. Under no circumstances will library staff accept any items directly from patrons.
What safeguards are in place regarding returned books?
Returned items are quarantined for at least 72 hours before they are checked in and returned to the shelves.
Are there any library resources I can use while branches are closed?
Yes. The Library provides a wide array of digital offerings, including e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming movies through Decatur Public Library@Home. Manage your account online – search the catalog, place holds, and renew items - at https://search.illinoisheartland.org/.
