For kids in the 5th-8th grades in the fall of 2020.

Join us the week of September 21 for a Zoom discussion group about the graphic novel New Kid by Jerry Craft!

The discussion will be introduced by Ms. Susan from the Children's Section, and led by Kabedi Mulomede and Kaream Williams.

We will have at least one Zoom session on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m., and perhaps more, depending on the number of registrations. Please register by September 15 so you can receive the Zoom invitation with date(s) and time(s).

You can request a copy of the book via the library catalog here. Patrons with a Decatur Public Library card can also use Hoopla to get an e-book copy or a digital audiobook copy.

New Kid is a 2019 graphic novel by Jerry Craft, about starting over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real. The book has been very popular and won the 2020 Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award, and is nominated for the 2021 Rebecca Caudill Award. It was the first graphic novel to be awarded the Newbery Medal.
