February 2, 2023
2:00pm - 3:30pm
Millikin University and Decatur Public Library partner to present Sami Steigmann.
A Holocaust Survivor, Mr. Steigmann visits Decatur Public Library to share his perspective on hope, life, and faith, and to tell the story of how he was able to transform himself from a victim into an agent for social action.
Born on December 21, 1939, Mr. Steigmann was held from 1941 to 1944 at the Mogilev-Podolsky labor camp in the region now known as Ukraine. According to records, Steigmann's parents declared him too young for work when the family was interned, which resulted in Steigmann being subject to Nazi medical experimentation, the details of which were not disclosed.
Steigmann is dedicated to reaching as many people as possible to promote tolerance in hopes that they will make it a better world for themselves, their children, and their grandchildren.
