Official Macon County Historian Mark W. Sorensen will discuss the new book THOUSAND-YEAR STATEHOUSE: THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE ILLINOIS STATE CAPITOL by David L. Finnigan. As former Assistant Director of the Illinois State Archives, Sorensen assisted with the research and wrote the Introduction for this 2021 publication.

An architect and expert photographer, David Finnigan used untapped resources to revisit how Illinois’ sixth Capitol building was constructed and decorated and presents information that supersedes all previous publications. Finnigan’s 2017 book, Inside Allerton: The Essential Guide to Robert Allerton Park, was critiqued as: Beautifully produced and lavishly illustrated [and] stands as a definitive record of this unique destination in central Illinois. Sorensen will present color slides from the Capitol book as well as explain the many Decatur connections to the construction and elements found in the Capitol complex.
